Performance Feedback

When you give performance feedback to your employees, it should be specific and factual. What are some of the best tips for feedback?

Tips for Feedback:

  • Set a good example
  • If the employee objects to a rule, ask for suggestions
  • Recognize good work and celebrate accomplishments
  • Praise in public and correct in private
  • Be factual and specific
  • Do not generalize or exaggerate
  • Do speak about the impact of the employee’s behavior on the business/organization and on co-workers
  • Clearly explain what is expected
  • Deal with problems as soon as you practically can
  • Take the conversation seriously and remain professional
  • Have a plan in case the meeting gets emotional
  • Ask if the employee understands the issue and “buys” into the solution
